Level 1

Logical

The data has become inaccessible with no apparent physical damage to the device. Within this level there are two situations of very different complexity.

1a – Simple logical

The data has been deleted, lost or has become inaccessible, but the device is working. We recover the information without any intervention on the device.

1b – Advanced logical

On more recent devices, formatting or deleting data changes the internal operation of the device (translator). The diagnosis and the recovery require a specialised intervention at internal level, which is more complex and takes longer.

Our technicians carry out physical interventions on the device, including work on the electronics (PCB) and changes to the firmware or the internal programming. After this process, the device will no longer be operational, as the only goal is to recover the data.

A drive can have more than one problem
Devices can have more problems, e.g. logical and physical, which may be detected during the diagnosis stage.

RAID

Data recovery on RAID systems involves rebuilding volumes that are damaged or inaccessible because of failures in the array. The complexity of the process depends on the number of drives in the array and their condition. In more serious cases, drives with mechanical faults may need internal parts replaced, such as head assemblies, or work on the electronics and the motor, before the recovery can go ahead.

Symptoms:

  • The RAID volume becomes inaccessible, even if the individual drives are recognised as working.
  • Error messages in the system, such as “Degraded”, “Failed”, or warnings about the integrity of the array.
  • Loss of performance when accessing data or frequent failures during read and write operations.
  • The RAID volume is completely missing from the operating system, preventing access to the files.

Recovery:

  • Individual Analysis of the Drives:
Each drive in the array is analysed in detail to identify physical faults, such as mechanical faults (e.g. weak read/write heads, damaged heads, motor failures) or electronic faults.
We also check for logical faults, such as corruption of metadata or file systems.
  • Virtual Rebuild of the Array:
We virtually rebuild the RAID array using specialised tools and advanced technical knowledge.
This process ensures that the original structure of the data is preserved.
  • Data Recovery:
We use advanced techniques to extract the data from the working drives. Even when the RAID is degraded or has failed badly, the process is carried out so as to ensure the integrity of the recovered files.

Price: From €900 (depending on the number of drives and their condition).

NAS

NAS (Network Attached Storage) systems are used to store and share files over a network, often configured with RAID for greater security and performance. However, failures can occur because of problems with the drives, data corruption or errors in the NAS operating system. The recovery depends on the number of drives, the type of RAID and the condition of the devices.

Symptoms:

  • The NAS volume is not accessible, even though the drives seem to be working.
  • Error messages, such as “RAID Failed” or “Volume Degraded”, appear in the system.
  • Slowness or failures when opening, copying or saving files.
  • The NAS is not recognised on the network or fails to start up.
  • Loss of settings or important files.

Recovery:

  • Analysis of the Drives: Individual check of each drive to identify physical or logical faults.
  • Rebuilding the Volume: Virtual recreation of the RAID array to restore access to the data.
  • Data Recovery: Extraction of the stored files, preserving the structure of the partitions.
  • NAS Structure: We access the drives of the NAS system directly, bypassing the enclosure and the operating system, to ensure the recovery of the data.

    • Error messages related to connectivity failures or the integrity of the storage system.
    • Significantly reduced performance or frequent failures during reading and writing.
    • Failures in the data management system, such as corrupted or inaccessible metadata.
  • Recovery:
    • We analyse the system architecture in detail to identify failures in components such as controllers, drives and connections.
    • We use advanced techniques to reconstruct the data and rebuild the logical structure of the system.
    • We recover the data using specialised tools, ensuring its integrity and preserving the organisational structures.
    • When necessary, we develop special code or custom scripts to access and recover the data effectively.
    • We recommend risk mitigation strategies to prevent future faults.
