Samsung drives in the laboratory
We receive Samsung hard drives from computers, laptops and external drives (Spinpoint and the M series). The hard drive division of Samsung passed to Seagate in 2011, so many of these drives are already several years old.
When parts need to be replaced, the part comes from a compatible donor drive, chosen by the reference of the drive. In the M series external drives, as in Toshiba drives, the USB connection is part of the board of the drive. Samsung SSDs (EVO, PRO, T7) have their own page: SSD data recovery.

Faults we see most often in Samsung drives
Clicking or a very slow drive.
In the M series external drives, the USB connector is on the board of the drive.
The drive spins but is not recognised.
Burnt board: the drive shows no sign of life.
What you should never do
Outside a cleanroom, dust contaminates the platters and the damage can be irreversible.
A board from another drive, even from the same model, does not have the information unique to this drive.
If it is clicking or slow, switch it off: every attempt can scratch the platters.
How much it costs to recover a Samsung drive
* The 2 hours are counted in order of arrival and within opening hours. Drives that were opened or tampered with before arriving may need an Advanced Diagnosis, at a cost that is always stated beforehand. In some cases (when parts are needed) an initial amount is requested, stated in the quote: if there is recovery, it is deducted from the price; if there is not, it covers the recovery attempt and is not refunded.

Frequently asked questions
My Samsung drive is more than 10 years old. Are there still parts?
We look for a compatible donor drive, chosen by the reference of the drive. The diagnosis tells you whether there are parts and what can be recovered.
My Samsung M series external drive does not power on. What is it?
It may be the connector or the board: in these drives the USB connection is part of the board. Do not open the enclosure; send it as it is, without the cable.
How much does it cost to recover a Samsung drive?
The hard drive prices apply, as published on the prices page: from 100 EUR + VAT for logical faults. The exact amount is in the final quote, which you receive after the diagnosis, and the Technical Diagnosis is only charged if you decline the quote or the Advanced Diagnosis, or if the device is so damaged that no quote is possible.

The drive was dropped and is making a different noise. Can I test it?
No: switch it off and do not switch it on again. Every attempt can scratch the platters.
What if I accept the quote and then there is no recovery?
You pay nothing for the recovery service or anything else; return shipping costs are separate. In some cases an initial amount is requested before work starts, always stated in the quote: it is deducted from the price if the recovery succeeds and, if it does not, it covers the attempt and is not refunded. If you accept and do not pay the initial amount within 5 working days, the device goes into storage, at a cost of 1 EUR + VAT per day, up to a maximum of 60 days. After that period, the device is recycled free of charge and the storage remains payable.
