RAID and NAS Data Recovery
We recover data from RAID, NAS and servers with failed drives, lost configuration, failed rebuild or ransomware attacks, in RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 and of all makes. Our own laboratory in Carcavelos, recovering data since 2004, with an ISO 5 (Class 100) cleanroom and a success rate of 98.40% in 2025 across all services, audited every year.
Free collection request
Technical Diagnosis in 2 hours per drive* and free collection in mainland Portugal.
"*" indicates required fields
In short
Switch off the RAID or the NAS and do not try to rebuild it. Fill in the online request and send us only the drives, identified by the order they were in: collection is free in mainland Portugal. We carry out the diagnosis in 2 hours per drive* and publish the final quote on your request page. The recovery only begins if you accept it.
RAID and NAS data recovery in the laboratory
A RAID combines several drives into a single volume. When a drive fails, or when the configuration is lost, the volume no longer opens, even with most of the drives in good condition.
At the laboratory we first deal with each drive (those with a mechanical fault go to the ISO 5, Class 100 cleanroom) and only then rebuild the RAID from the copies, without writing to the original drives. We work with NAS, servers and storage systems of all makes, in RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10. We are the only data recovery laboratory certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 in Portugal.
Symptoms: what your RAID or NAS is telling you
| What happens | Likely cause and what to do |
|---|---|
| The volume does not open, but the drives are recognised | Damaged RAID configuration or metadata. Switch it off and do not touch the configuration. |
| “Degraded” or “Failed” warning | One or more drives have dropped out of the RAID. Do not rebuild or swap drives: switch it off. |
| The NAS does not appear on the network or does not start | NAS system or boot drive. Do not reinstall the NAS system. |
| Very slow or errors when copying | A drive with weak heads. Switch it off: every copy puts strain on that drive. |
| One of the drives goes “click” | Mechanical fault in that drive. Switch it off now. |
| It failed after an update | Firmware or NAS system. Do not try the update again. |
| The files appear encrypted or with a different extension | Ransomware attack. Disconnect the NAS from the network. See ransomware. |
Types of fault
One or more drives with a mechanical, electronic or firmware fault.
Lost configuration, failed rebuild, drives put in the wrong positions.
The NAS or the controller has failed, but the drives are fine.
Deleted files, formatted volume, damaged file system, ransomware.
Most common causes: a failed drive that was not replaced in time, a rebuild that failed halfway, power cuts, NAS updates, drives put in the wrong positions and ransomware attacks.
What you should never do
If the NAS offers to repair, rebuild or initialise the volume, click Cancel: it may write over the data.
Only remove the drives if necessary and identify each one by the position it was in.
With one drive out, the RAID is working at its limit: if another fails, the data may be lost. Switch it off.
How much RAID or NAS recovery costs
* The 2 hours per drive are counted in order of arrival and within opening hours. A RAID that has to be rebuilt, or drives tampered with before arrival, may need an Advanced Diagnosis, at a cost, always communicated in advance. In some cases (when parts are needed) an initial amount is requested, stated in the quote: if there is a recovery, it is deducted from the price; if there is not, it covers the recovery attempt and is not refunded.

Frequently asked questions
The NAS offers to rebuild or repair the RAID. Should I accept?
No. A rebuild with a weak drive, or with the drives out of order, can write over the data. Click Cancel, switch off the NAS and contact us.
Do I send the whole NAS or only the drives?
Only the drives, identified by the position they were in (for example, with a numbered label), each one well wrapped in bubble wrap. Collection is free in mainland Portugal.
How long does the diagnosis take?
2 hours per drive, in order of arrival and within opening hours. A RAID that has to be rebuilt may need an Advanced Diagnosis, always communicated in advance.
How much does it cost to recover a RAID or a NAS?
From 900 EUR + VAT, depending on the number of drives and their condition; the prices are published on the prices page. The exact amount is in the final quote. The Technical Diagnosis is only charged if you do not accept the quote or the Advanced Diagnosis, or if the drives are so damaged that no quote can be given: 36.90 EUR per drive.
How long does the recovery take?
It depends on the fault and the service chosen: 24 hours, urgent (1 to 3 working days), priority (4 to 7 working days), standard (8 to 12 working days) or non-urgent (15 to 30 days), with a lower price for those who are not in a hurry.
Which makes of NAS and servers do you work with?
All makes. What matters is the condition of the drives and the type of RAID, which the diagnosis identifies.
What if I accept the quote and then there is no recovery?
You pay nothing for the recovery service or anything else; return shipping costs are separate. In some cases an initial amount is requested before work starts, always stated in the quote: it is deducted from the price if the recovery succeeds and, if it does not, it covers the attempt and is not refunded. If you accept and do not pay the initial amount within 5 working days, the device goes into storage, at a cost of 1 EUR + VAT per day, up to a maximum of 60 days. After that period, the device is recycled free of charge and the storage remains payable.
